Southern Sun Montecasino

Our assessment

Southern Sun Montecasino is tuscan-themed and family-friendly, and that description holds across the property rather than only in its marketing. Set in Sun City, Johannesburg, and Cape Town, it is assessed here on rooms, service, dining, position, and value.

Its natural audience is Sandton-area stays and theatre visitors. The features that define the stay are themed piazza, bird gardens and two theatres, and together they set both the strengths and the limits of the experience.

Our editors flag one thing above all others: the themed piazza is genuinely pleasant rather than merely decorative. It is worth acting on at the point of booking rather than discovering at the front desk.
